Most people in Severna Park need to know that training dogs is a fundamental concept when having dog. Simply put, the main purpose is to instill dog obedience and to establish yourself as the pack leader. This is also a good time to bond with the dog as training will be fun.
When can dogs be trained? Puppies have short attention spans and hence most training centers have a minimum of 3 to 6 months for formal training. While dogs can still learn new tricks when they become older it gets more challenging to send them for obedience training when they are a few years old and set in their ways.
You can send your dogs for training at dog training centers in Severna Park or you could train them yourself. Those who have prior training experience with dogs will be able to train dogs on their own.
Dogs do not need to know many commands and very few are generally sufficient. It is important in the process to always have a training leash handy.
How to Find a Dog Trainer
So you're trying to train your dog or puppy then. Having any success?
Still barking incessantly? Chewing up your shoes? Soiling your carpets? Pretending they're not with you when you're out?
So what exactly do you do? You can spend a lot of money asking a professional dog trainer to do the dirty work for you, but mostly this will be a waste of time and money. Why? Well your dog may well end up with the utmost respect for their new found trainer and act like a saint for them. But their trainer wasn't you! And therein lies the problem. Dogs by their nature are pack animals and follow
their natural leader, the 'top dog' if you like. If you aren't seen as the natural 'leader of the pack' then your dog will quite happily assume that role and then you really are up against it.
These days there are many options available for meeting your dog training requirements that enable you to achieve great results without paying out a fortune to professional trainers. There are of course videos and DVDs, but in more recent times the advent of multimedia eBooks on the internet are a fantastic way to learn about just about anything. Not only are they instantly accessible and generally very cheap, they achieve all of the aims described above. And unlike videos and DVDs, often the authors of these products are available to contact should you have further questions or require additional advice.
Whichever method you choose, good luck and enjoy being 'top dog'!
Dog Training - How To Train a Collie The Right Way
Probably the most famous collie in history is Lassie. I doubt seriously that there is anybody who hasn't heard of Lassie. In the Lassie Come Home movie and in the TV series, Lassie was so smart that she appeared to be a thinking and reasoning human in a dog suit. Everybody who has ever seen the movie or a series episode probably wishes that they could have a dog just like Lassie. Lassie must have saved Tommy's life a hundred times!
Like every other collie ever born, however, Lassie was born into this world without any skills at all. She wasn't housebroken, and she had no idea what obedience was. She certainly didn't know any tricks, who Tommy was, or how to save him on camera. She was trained! Everything that you see Lassie do on the screen, she is doing because she is being TOLD what to do. She does it because she has been trained.
The AKC version of a collie is not the same as the collie that you know as Lassie. The dogs that play Lassie are bred to be bigger than the AKC standard. The AKC Collie breed is smaller and lighter by 10 to 15 pounds, and the standard for markings is different as well.
